WFC PROBATIONARY MEMBERSHIP COURSE
WFC PROBATIONARY MEMBERSHIP COURSE - 2009
The course is based on the Home Office requirements for Probationary Members of
Rifle Clubs. Probationary membership is for a minimum of 3 months duration with at least 5 sessions
of instruction in the safe handling and use of firearms and 9 attendances
overall. Successful completion of the course can lead to Associate Membership
of the Warwickshire Firearms Club and fulfils the legal requirements for a
Firearms Certificate application and for membership of a Home Office approved
club.
Aim of the course : Probationary Members must show that they can handle and use firearms safely as required for
Full Membership of the WFC and current safety requirements when shooting on
Ministry of ranges.

- Club information / membership and sign in procedures / etc.
- Session 1 - Wedgnock - 100 metres
- .22 target rifle + gallery rifle
- Safety procedures and Range Regulations
- introduction to the .22 Target Rifle and Gallery Rifle (theory and live firing)
- Session 2 - Wedgnock - 100 metres
- .22 target rifle
- .45/70 rifle
- Basic ballistics
- Adjusting sights and misfire procedures
- Live firing and group size check
- 1st assessment
- Session 3 - Kingsbury - 200/300 yards
- Introduction to the 7.62 target rifle
- Kingsbury Range Regulations and safety
- Target marking system
- Radio messages
- 7.62 rifle live firing
- Session 4 - Kingsbury - 500/600 yards
- Zeroing procedures
- Using the score card
- 7.62 rifle live firing - coached shoot
- 2nd assessment
- Session 5 - Kingsbury - 500/600 yards
- Preparing and cleaning the rifle
- Written test
- 7.62 rifle live firing - solo shoot
- Final assessment
- Session 6 (Optional) - Wedgnock - 25 metres
- Percussion single shot pistol
- Percussion revolver
- Session 7 (Optional) - Wedgnock - 100 metres
- Session 8 (Optional) - Kingsbury
Assessment : Students are examined by continuous assessment, a practical test and a formal daily report
is made on each student by the coach.
All live firing is done under one - to - one supervision on the firing
point.
